MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A man has been charged with aggravated child abuse after a Cullman boy was found dead on his first birthday.
Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey said in a statement that 37-year-old Jeffery Brown has been charged with aggravated child abuse. WBMA-TV (https://bit.ly/1e13x98 ) reports that Brown was being held on $30,000 bond. It was not immediately clear Friday whether he had an attorney.
Police were sent to Cullman Regional Medical Center on Tuesday to investigate the reported bathtub drowning of a child, Hoss Wayne Benham. Investigators believed the child had suspicious injuries. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death, but the medical findings have not been released.
