BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say they don’t plan to file charges against a man who dropped off a dead woman at the Hancock Medical Center emergency room and drove off.

Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1kpy2r6 ) the man, whose name wasn’t released, was trying to get help for a woman he believed had overdosed on heroin. Adam says he appeared to be telling the truth when investigators questioned him Tuesday.

The sheriff said the man told them he and 22-year-old Kristen Cuevas were with a group who were taking heroin they had obtained in New Orleans and were at a friend’s house in Waveland. She was dead by the time the man drove her to the hospital in Bay St. Louis.

Officials suspect Cuevas died of a heroin overdose.
