President Obama will sign into law a bill eliminating taxpayer funding of the Republican and Democratic party conventions, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Friday.
The measure, which passed both the House and Senate this week, would redirect the about $18 million in public funds each convention received in 2012 to the National Institutes of Health for grants to pediatric research.
“We support this bill because its chief aim is increasing our investments in potentially life-changing and life-saving children’s research,” Mr. Carney said.
