THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Galliano woman accused of stealing money from an elderly friend has been arrested.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says 54-year-old Charlene Romero faces more than 10 felony charges after admitting her involvement to investigators.

Webre says detectives began investigating after the victim’s relatives reported several thousand dollars missing. Detectives learned Romero had befriended the man and had been at the man’s home on several occasions, including times when he was not there.

Webre says Romero admitted taking $300 from the man on one occasion and later admitted taking money on multiple occasions.

Romero was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on 10 counts of thefts of assets of an aged/disabled person, exploitation of the infirmed, and two counts of simple burglary. She is free after posting $80,000 bond.
