Gov. Pat Quinn, a Chicago Democrat, is seeking re-election to a second full term. He faces one primary challenger, Tio Hardiman. Here’s a look at both candidates:


NAME: Patrick Quinn of Chicago

AGE: 65

JOBS/EXPERIENCE: Illinois governor.

OFFICES HELD: Former lieutenant governor and state treasurer.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from Northwestern University

FAMILY: Divorced, two sons.

RUNNING MATE: Former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas.

QUOTE: “I want to be progressive and aggressive. And I’m not going to let the clock get turned back by a bunch of folks who have views that I think are extreme and do not reflect the common good of Illinois. That crowd is out there. They have a lot of money.”


NAME: Tio Hardiman of Hillside

AGE: 51

JOBS/EXPERIENCE: Activist, motivational speaker, former head of CeaseFire Chicago.

OFFICES HELD: First time seeking public office.

EDUCATION: Associate’s degree from Harold Washington College and bachelor and master’s degrees from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.

FAMILY: Married, four children and two stepchildren.

RUNNING MATE: Attorney Brunell Donald

QUOTE: “All of the so-called experienced politicians are leading the state to bankruptcy and it’s time for some serious changes in Illinois. I am not part of the status quo or machine politics.”
