SALINA, Kan. (AP) - Shelbe Piggie and Lexie Villegas each scored 15 points as Bishop Miege claimed the Kansas Class 4A-1 girls state championship, handing Wamego its first loss, 57-41 on Saturday.

Bishop Miege (22-3) moved out to a 19-7 first-quarter lead, holding Wamego to 3-of-11 shooting. They hit four 3-pointers in the first half to grab a 29-20 halftime lead.

The Stags outscored Wamego 17-9 in the third quarter, moving out to a comfortable 17-point lead.

Bishop Miege shot 44 percent from the field and hit 15 of 17 free throws. Madeline Homoly added 13 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while Villegas had eight boards.

Kaylee Page paced the Red Raiders with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Caitlin Claussen had 12 and eight. Wamego (24-1) committed 15 turnovers, which led to 12 points for Bishop Miege.
