CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Kasen Wilson hit a jumper with 2 seconds left to lift Morganton Freedom past James B. Hunt 59-57 on Saturday night in the Class 3-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association men’s championship game.

Chris Bridges scored 19 points and Wilson finished with 12 for Freedom (31-1). The Patriots - who won 4-A titles in 1994 and ‘98 - trailed 57-55 when Gabe Logan converted a three-point play for James B. Hunt with 1:26 left.

Jeron Hemphill hit a tying layup with 34 seconds left and James B. Hunt called a timeout with 30 seconds remaining, but Justin Jefferson turned the ball over with 18 seconds left to set up Wilson’s winner.

Josh Willingham had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Dexter Wright and Justin Jefferson each had 10 points for James B. Hunt (25-3), which was denied its first men’s state title.
