TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Tyler Johnson scored 18 points and hauled in 10 rebounds, pacing Leavenworth past Salina Central 64-53 to claim the Kansas 5A girls state championship on Saturday.

Top-seeded Leavenworth (24-1) held Salina Central to three points in the opening quarter, and had moved out to a 10-point lead in the second, but Salina Central surged back to take a one-point lead into halftime. Leavenworth regained the lead in the third quarter and pulled away down the stretch, outscoring Salina Central 44-32 in the second half.

Emma Zeck added 12 points for Leavenworth and LaToshia Jones had 10.

Emily Wood led Salina Central (23-2) with 16 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Hailey Mayfield had 15 points and Shaelyn Martin chipped in 14.
