DERIDDER, La. (AP) - Beauregard Parish police jurors have killed a proposed millage that would have benefited a local nonprofit organization after representatives from several other area groups asked for similar treatment.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb ) the Beauregard Community Action Agency, which serves underprivileged residents, petitioned the Police Jury in January to include the millage on the November ballot.

The Police Jury discussed levying a 1-mill tax. Had the millage been approved by voters, it would have generated at estimated $240,000 annually for the group.

But other groups asked to make their own pitches for millages.

Jurors pulled the initial proposal from consideration this past week.
