Ukrainian soldiers have been given the green light to shoot at Russian aggressors after a military member was killed at a base in the Crimean town of Simferopol, Agence France-Presse reported.

“For their self defense and protection of their lives, Ukrainian servicemen… deployed in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea are allowed to use arms,” the Ukrainian defense ministry said in a statement, AFP reported.

Earlier Tuesday, Ukrainian spokesman told Reuters that an ongoing attack on the base left officials barricaded in a second-floor room of the Simferopol base, adding, “the headquarters has been taken, and the commander has been taken. They want us to put down our arms, but we do not intend to surrender.”
