CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Tree experts say Cheyenne residents can breathe a little easier about the threat of pine beetles to the pine trees in their yards.

Pine beetles have killed millions of acres of forest across the region since the mid-1990s. Over the past few years, pine beetles also have been a serious threat to pine trees in and around Cheyenne.

Now, the pine beetle epidemic is tapering off in the mountains. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (bit.ly/1izGcx4) that translates into less of a threat to the pine trees in town.

Richard McElderry with Cheyenne Tree Service says aggressive spraying helped to protect Cheyenne’s pine trees. He says some people might want to spray for another year but ongoing spraying for beetles might not be necessary.
