ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A Planned Parenthood facility scheduled to open this summer will take over the abortion services provided by another clinic in Asheville.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported (https://avlne.ws/1gGzoNj) Femcare said in a statement that it will continue to provide abortion services during the transition, but it won’t accept new gynecology patients.

Femcare is the only abortion provider in Asheville. Its building is for sale.

Planned Parenthood in Asheville now provides services such as family planning, but its doctors don’t perform abortions.

The state Department of Health and Human Services suspended Femcare’s license last summer, citing safety violations. The clinic closed, then reopened.

The suspension came days after Gov. Pat McCrory signed legislation that directed state officials to regulate abortion clinics based on the same standards as those for outpatient surgical centers.
