SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a dump truck driver was injured when the vehicle fell onto its side while traveling in Smyrna.

It happened about 9:45 a.m. on Route 1. Troopers say 39-year-old Brandon Hines of Elkton, Md., was driving the dump truck, loaded with salt, when it drifted onto the grass median.

Police say Hines tried to steer the truck back onto the road when the salt shifted, causing the truck to fall onto the driver’s side.

Officers say the truck slid, dumping salt on the road before it stopped on the shoulder.

Troopers say Hines was pinned in the truck for two hours. He was flown to Christiana Hospital, where he is being treated for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

Hines was cited for careless driving.
