LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Tra Edwards scored 30 points to lead Hopkinsville to an 83-62 win over South Oldham Wednesday in the first round of the Kentucky boys Sweet Sixteen state basketball tournament at Rupp Arena.

The Tigers (31-2) will play the winner of the Trinity-Owensboro game in the quarterfinals at noon Friday. Hopkinsville, the Region 2 winner, won its 18th straight game.

Quan Poindexter followed Edwards with 19 points and Demarius Henry added 15.

Edwards scored 18 points and Henry added 12 in the first half - all in the first quarter. Henry sank four 3-pointers in the first eight minutes.

The Dragons (22-5), the Region 8 champion, pulled within five points twice in the second quarter but couldn’t get any closer as Hopkinsville pulled away in the second half.

Kyle Young led South Oldham with 15 points. Jonathan Blair had 14 and Michael Griffin and Drew Greenwood chipped in with 11 each.
