KEIZER, Ore. (AP) - Police in Keizer, Ore., say a gunman confronted an armored truck employee inside a vacant grocery store building as the worker was trying to service an ATM machine on the exterior of the building.

Deputy Chief Jeffrey Kuhns says the driver of the armored truck told 911 dispatchers his co-worker had been robbed Tuesday afternoon. The driver remained in the truck.

Kuhns says the unidentified victim was able to flee to a room he was able to lock, then contact his co-worker in the truck.

Salem police SWAT officers rushed to the Schoolhouse Square business complex as a nearby business was evacuated and a high school was briefly locked down. The police spokesman says officers escorted the armored truck worker from the building. He was not hurt.

Kuhns says investigators think the armed man fled before police arrived.

The spokesman refused to discuss whether the gunman got any money.

The Statesman Journal reports the incident involved a Brinks truck.
