AURORA, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say one person was killed in a small plane crash southeast of Aurora; and crews have extinguished a 2-acre grass fire sparked by the accident.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says the plane crashed near the Blackstone Country Club in an unincorporated part of the county at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Aurora police say the fire did not threaten any structures in the area.

A photo released by the Aurora Fire Department shows the charred wreckage of what appears to be a twin-engine plane, and the sheriff’s office and South Metro Fire Rescue have confirmed that one person on board the aircraft was killed.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been called in to investigate. No other information was released.
