HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A head-on collision in Hattiesburg has taken the life of a William Carey University student.

Hattiesburg Lt. Jon Traxler says at about 2:25 a.m. Sunday, police received a call of a head-on collision on Highway 49.

Traxler tells WDAM-TV (https://bit.ly/1pRaD5f ) that 32-year-old Roberto O’Neil Stanton was driving southbound in the northbound lane, just north of the Forrest County Multi Purpose Center, when he crashed into a vehicle.

The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem identified him as 21-year-old Michael Iler. Traxler says the passenger, Iler’s wife, was seriously injured and was transported in serious condition to an area hospital.

Stanton was treated for minor injuries and then booked with DUI-negligence of driver results in death or disfigurement and DUI- mutilation/disfigurement/death of another.
