BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota man says he will plead guilty to unlawfully trapping a golden eagle on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

Tyrell Bateman is charged in federal court with unlawful take of a bald eagle. The charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Investigators say the eagle was snared in a trap northeast of Selfridge on Jan. 5. Residents took photos of the eagle before releasing it and calling authorities.

A change of plea hearing is scheduled for March 14.
