PACIFIC, Mo. (AP) - Seven dogs that were once strays are about to get intense training - from prison inmates.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1eSPT4V ) reports that Stray Rescue of St. Louis took seven dogs Wednesday to the Missouri Eastern Correctional Center in Pacific. Inmates will train the dogs and teach them basic obedience and socialization skills. After that, the dogs will be made available for adoption.

The program, known as Puppies for Parole, began in 2010 and is funded by donations. More than 2,000 dogs have gone through the program and been adopted.
