CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Public housing projects across West Virginia are sharing more than $7.9 million in federal funding.

Sens. Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller, as well as Rep. Nick Rahall say the money comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The funds are used to help develop, finance and modernize public housing developments and for management improvements.

Officials say the modernization of public housing projects may include replacing obsolete utility systems with new technology, establishing computer centers in and around public housing facilities and addressing maintenance needs.
