LEWISTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say no one was injured when a transformer at the New York Power Authority on the Niagara River exploded and caught fire.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office tells local media that the transformer blew up Wednesday night at the plant in Lewiston, just north of Niagara Falls.

Volunteer firefighting companies put out the blaze.

The New York Power Authority says there was no disruption to service. The agency is assessing the damage to the power-producing unit.
