INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Officials say an Indianapolis police officer was badly hurt when his squad car slammed into a concrete median wall on Interstate 65.

Emergency crews had to cut off the car’s passenger-side door to reach Sgt. Anthony McLemore, who was pinned inside after the crash about 3 a.m. Friday on the city’s south side.

Police spokesman Officer Chris Wilburn says McLemore was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

The squad car was the only vehicle involved in the crash, and circumstances of the crash weren’t immediately clear. Wilburn says the damaged cruiser was being towed to a secure location for inspection as part of the crash investigation.
