LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A ceremony is scheduled to place a tombstone at the currently unmarked grave of former Little Rock Police Chief George Counts.

The ceremony will be Friday at Mount Holly Cemetery in Little Rock.

Counts was named Little Rock police chief in 1879 and resigned in 1883 after being diagnosed with tuberculosis. He died in 1884 at age 35.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1iRWQYJ ) the tombstone was bought by Counts‘ great-grandson Jim Counts; Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas; and the city’s police department.
