COWPENS, S.C. (AP) - A man is facing drunken driving charges after authorities say he hit a family’s vehicle, killing one woman.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the crash happened at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on state Highway 110 near Cowpens.

Troopers say 43-year-old Tanya Jean Tiede died at the scene.

Authorities say Tiede was driving south when a vehicle traveling north crossed the center line and struck her vehicle head-on.

Troopers say Tiede’s 65-year-old mother, 44-year-old husband and 11-year-old daughter were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says Tiede’s vehicle was struck by 19-year-old Austin Shackleford of Spartanburg. Jail records show Shackleford faces charges including felony DUI and open container. It wasn’t immediately known if he had an attorney.
