ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque police dog shot and wounded Friday during a standoff with a suspect at a burglary scene is now recovering at his handler’s home.

Officer Simon Drobik says Rico and his handler were called to the scene Friday to try to find a suspect who barricaded himself in a business.

According to KOAT-TV (https://bit.ly/1dGHa5v ), Drobik says the dog was shot several times and may have some hearing loss in one of his ears because he was so close to the gunshots.

The suspect was found dead.

Police said no officers fired their weapons but additional information hasn’t been released.
