BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) - Veteran Romania forward Adrian Mutu has undergone a knee operation and will be out of action for a month.

Petrolul Ploiesti coach Razvan Lucescu said Mutu hurt ligaments in a collision with a teammate during training last week, and had the operation on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately Adi will be out for about a month,” Lucescu said. “I am sure he will have the drive to come back; he was in excellent form.”

Mutu, 35, joined Petrolul Ploiesti from Ajaccio in January after terminating his contract with the French club.

He scored 11 goals last season to help Ajaccio stay in the first division, but the former Juventus and Chelsea striker struggled for form and failed to score in nine games before he left.
