NEWNAN, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say two people were killed in a shooting in the Coweta County town of Newnan.

The Newnan Times-Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1eOmn3D) that police and sheriff’s deputies responded to the gunfire on Hill Street around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Newnan Police Chief Douglas “Buster” Meadows said one person was dead at the scene and another was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital and later died.



Authorities say the gunfire happened near the intersection of Hill and Hatcher streets.

Few other details were immediately available.

Newnan is about 40 miles southwest of Atlanta.
