CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) - Firefighters were able to stop a pre-dawn fire at a restaurant in downtown Carrollton from spreading to nearby businesses on Carrollton’s historic town square, authorities said.

The blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Carrollton Fire Chief Jimmy Bearden told WSB-TV.

Firefighters quickly opened up the roof and contained the attic fire. Fire walls helped prevent the blaze from spreading to other structures at Adamson Square, authorities said.

The building is home to La Trattoria, an Italian restaurant. Owners of the restaurant said that significant water damage would likely keep the business closed for some time, The Times-Georgian of Carrollton reported.

Firefighters were continuing to search for hot spots early Wednesday morning, Bearden said.

No injuries were reported, the Carrollton newspaper reported.

Carrollton is about 45 miles southwest of Atlanta.
