DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police say a woman hit an officer with her van, then drove off.

Police say the officer was in temporarily serious condition after being struck Wednesday afternoon on the city’s northwest side.

Sgt. Michael Woody says a police sergeant was outside of his patrol car and was talking with a woman as part of a criminal investigation when the van struck him.

Woody tells The Detroit News (https://bit.ly/1gYIfFV ) that the officer was “alert and conscious but … pretty banged up.” Woody’s says the sergeant’s injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening.

Woody says officers caught up with the van’s driver and took her into custody.
