SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A Woodburn man held as a material witness in a murder case has pleaded guilty to an attempted assault that occurred during the same incident.
Marion County Judge Dale Penn sentenced Juan Torres-Santizo to eight months in jail. The county District Attorney’s Office says he tried to stab a man during a fight at a Woodburn apartment complex last summer. The intended victim was not hurt.
Prosecutors say he is a material witness in a companion case against Mateo Torres-Morales, who was charged with fatally stabbing Pedro Bravo-Luna during the same melee.
Torres-Morales pleaded not guilty. His murder trial is scheduled for Nov. 12.
