DOWNEY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a California Highway Patrol officer was injured and 2 CHP cruisers were damaged during an hour-long pursuit that ended with a crash and the arrests of three burglary suspects.

CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos tells City News Service the chase on Southern California freeways and streets reached speeds of 85 mph. It ended about 1:40 a.m. Thursday when an officer cut off the suspects’ van in Downey.

One CHP cruiser was disabled during the pursuit when it struck a fire hydrant and then a center divider, injuring one of its occupants. An officer was hospitalized in unknown condition.

Another cruiser was damaged when the suspects’ van reversed into it.

The suspects face several charges including assault with a deadly weapon.
