PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Two counties are participating in a state effort this week to touch base with each one of the 75,000 South Dakota veterans.

Operation Reaching All Veterans kicked off with a proclamation signed by Gov. Dennis Daugaard on the first day of the 2014 legislative session.

The state Department of Veterans Affairs along with county and tribal veterans’ services will host about 130 events. Staff will also reach out to veterans by phone to help set them up with federal, state and local services.

Marshall County will host an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at Britton High School’s auditorium. Moody County will do the same from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Fire Hall in Trent.
