A small planet has been named after Vice President Joseph R. Biden.

The Hill reported Thursday that astronomers nicknamed a “new dwarf planet circling the sun at the outer edges of the solar system” — after Mr. Biden, who is also known as “Sheriff Joe.”

Nature.com said the “newfound object’s official name is 2012VP113, but the discovery team calls it VP for short, or just ‘Biden.’ “
