ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - A northern Illinois man was sentenced to six months in jail for a traffic accident that killed his wife and stepson, and injured members of another family.

Earlier this month, Anthony D. Crose of Winnebago was found not guilty of reckless homicide for a December 2011 accident near Cherry Valley that killed his wife, Dea, and his stepson, 15-year-old Cole Trusler. Crose was convicted of aggravated reckless driving.

The Rockford Register Star reports (https://bit.ly/1gvFzV7) witnesses said Crose was driving excessively fast, changed lanes and lost control of his Ford Mustang. The vehicle crossed a median and struck a van carrying the Mathias family from Roscoe.

In handing down his sentence, Judge Brian Shore said Thursday he would consider work release for Crose, requiring him to report to jail at night.
