PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Officials with the American Red Cross say they’re helping seven adults and two children who were left homeless after a fire destroyed their home in Providence.

The blaze ripped through a three-story home on Waverly Street on Thursday. Fire officials say no one was seriously injured, but two residents were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Red Cross officials say they’re providing emergency food aid to a family of three adults and a child, and giving another family of four adults and one child emergency housing and food. Volunteers gave the two children stuffed animal toys.

The families also have been provided with person care items including toothbrushes and deodorant.
