TULARE, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors say they will not file charges against a Central California police chief who was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend called to report a dispute.

Kern County prosecutors tell KFSN-TV in Fresno (https://bit.ly/1piwQrs) the case against 47-year-old Tulare Police Chief Jerry Breckinridge is closed. Supervising Deputy District Attorney Melissa Allen said Breckinridge and his girlfriend had mutual injuries, and the girlfriend has refused to cooperate with investigators. Without more evidence, there wasn’t a case to present in court.

Breckinridge was arrested at home in Tulare on March 16, a day after his girlfriend reported a disturbance. Tulare is about 50 miles southeast of Fresno.
