FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - An official who oversaw thousands of roadway lights in Miami-Dade County has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for taking bribes from a lighting contractor.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Friday that 50-year-old George Brown must also forfeit $13,000. He pleaded guilty in January to the bribery count. Brown has until May 13 to surrender to the United States Bureau of Prisons.

Court records show that Brown accepted bribes worth more than $13,000 from the lighting contractor in 2011 and 2012 in exchange for using the contractor’s products. The bribes took the form of merchandise, including an air conditioning unit, a stainless steel refrigerator and a kitchen oven.

The contractor cooperated with the FBI and recorded some conversations with Brown, who oversaw about 24,000 roadway lights for the county’s Department of Public Works.
