OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - The Washington state Transportation Department says the deadline to remove studded tires is midnight on Monday, March 31 - no extensions.

Studded tires are only legal in Washington from Nov. 1 to March 31.

Highway officials say drivers who travel mountain pass highways should check forecasts ahead of time and be prepared for possible winter travel conditions since “short-term snow events” can occur well into May.

Driving with studs after March 31 is a traffic infraction in Washington and could result in a $124 ticket.
