RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Gov. Pat McCrory has selected a Wake County judge to replace District Attorney Colon Willoughby Jr., who announced his resignation last week.

McCrory says Judge Ned Mangum will take over when Willoughby leaves the post Monday. Mangum will be the prosecutor until Jan. 1.

Willoughby had already announced he would not seek re-election this year. He’s joining the Raleigh office of the McGuireWoods law firm May 1.

Willoughby was first elected as district attorney in 1986.
