GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say they’re investigating the theft of a specialized wheelchair from a man who was traveling through Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the theft was reported Wednesday by a quadriplegic man who was traveling by car from Colorado to Minnesota on March 21.

The man and two friends say they parked their vehicle to rest overnight on a road just south of Interstate 80 near Grand Island. They told authorities they placed the wheelchair outside of the car so one of the seats inside could recline.

The three say the wheelchair was gone when they woke up the next morning.

The specialized wheelchair is valued at $5,000.
