GREENVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they’ve charged a 49-year-old Hudson Valley man with aggravated vehicular homicide and manslaughter for the New Year’s Day crash that killed his passenger.

Troopers say they arrested Juan Avalos-Zamora of Poughkeepsie on Thursday.

Police say he was driving a pickup truck early on the morning of Jan. 1 when it slammed into a tree along Route 6 in the Orange County town of Greenville, on the New Jersey border 60 miles northwest of New York City.

Troopers say the passenger, 21-year-old Rafael Gonzalez of Highland, wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was killed on impact

Avalos-Zamora was injured.

He’s being held in the county jail on $200,000 bail. It couldn’t immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
