JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Two families have been displaced and their apartment building destroyed in an early morning fire in Jersey City.

Assistant Public Safety Director Jerry Cala tells The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/1lrUnXO ) that two firefighters were treated and released after suffering from smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported.

Cala says the 5-alarm fire was called in shortly after midnight Friday and brought under control around 4 a.m.

It left two families displaced and destroyed three stores, including a produce store, a party supplies store and a 1-hour photo service.

The building that was destroyed in the fire is owned by Jersey City councilman Michael Yun.

The fire also spread to nearby structures, which suffered damage.
