MACOMB, Ill. (AP) - Students at Western Illinois University have been helping with tornado recovery in the central Illinois city of Washington.

WIU emergency management students are working on an economic-recovery data-gathering project. Emergency Management Assistant Professor Jack Rozdilsky and his students are looking at factors that may influence long-term economic recovery in Tazewell County.

The students hope to offer recommendations to Washington officials by the end of the semester in early May.

More than 1,000 homes were severely damaged or destroyed when a tornado struck Washington last fall.
