DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A Davenport police officer is recovering after being bitten by a dog.
The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/PapLw8) that 39-year-old Officer Roberto Luna was bitten on his left leg by a pit bull Wednesday night.
Police Officer Brenton Shipman says he and Luna, who were responding to a report of a dog on the loose, spotted the dog run through the gate of a home. When Luna walked up to the house, the dog jumped over the fence and bit him, before jumping back over the gate and running into the house.
Luna was taken to a local hospital, where he got 11 stitches. He is expected to be off duty through next week.
Animal control officers took the dog, and its owners have said they want the 16-month-old animal euthanized.
