PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota will observe “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” for the first time this weekend.

The 2013 Legislature established three working holidays in honor of veterans. March 30 is designated to honor those who served in Vietnam.

Counties across the state will host events. The Spink County Veterans Service Office south of Aberdeen will host a supper with music and a speaker.

There will be events in Rapid City and Sioux Falls as well. Those interested in observing the holiday should contact their local Veterans Service Office.

Lawmakers also made Aug. 7 “Purple Heart Recognition Day” and the third Friday of September “POW/MIA Recognition Day.”
