DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Hundreds of writers and literary fans will gather in southwest Ohio for the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop in early April.

The University of Dayton says the April 10-12 workshop sold out in 12 hours, with 350 writers from around the nation.

But there are other events that are free and open to the public. They include the writing competition results ceremony April 9, with entries from 853 writers. There also will be book-signings with author-columnist Lisa Scottoline and cartoonist Tom Batiuk, creator of “Funky Winkerbean.”

Long-time talk show host Phil Donahue will give the opening keynote for the writers’ workshop. Donahue was a neighbor of Bombeck, the late University of Dayton graduate known for her humorous writing.

The biennial workshop in her name was launched in 2000.
