EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - An Everett, Wash., police spokesman says an officer who responded to a report of a bank robbery at a Chase Bank branch spotted a man matching the robber’s description a short distance away and stopped to talk to him.

Officer Aaron Snell says the man didn’t want to chat - and started running. Officers caught and detained him. Detectives worked with witnesses to positively identify the man as the robbery suspect who handed a note to a teller, collected money and ran from the bank about 5 p.m. Monday.

Snell says 34-year-old William Rivers was arrested for investigation of bank robbery.
