SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - The Saginaw County prosecutor says he expects to file new charges Tuesday against a couple arrested in the burning and beating of their 6-year-old son after the boy died from his injuries.

Thirty-nine-year-old Aki Dillard and 30-year-old Mio Campbell were arraigned by video link Monday. Dillard is charged with attempted murder and child abuse, while Campbell is charged with child abuse.

Authorities say police were called to a Saginaw home and found Elijah Dillard with extensive burns and a head injury. Prosecutor John McColgan Jr. says Elijah died over the weekend.

District Judge Kyle Higgs Tarrant has set Dillard’s bond at $15 million and Campbell’s at $5 million. The judge scheduled their probable cause hearing for March 17.

McColgan says the judge directed that the parents be assigned defense lawyers.
