PHOENIX (AP) - A married Phoenix man is being held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder for allegedly hitting his girlfriend three times on the head with a crowbar.
Alberto Vail Perez was ordered held without bond at his initial court appearance Monday. He doesn’t have a lawyer yet.
Authorities say last Wednesday’s attack left the woman with severe brain injuries and on life support.
Court records show the 53-year-old Perez also is accused of aggravated criminal damage.
He allegedly used the same crowbar to smash all six windows of his wife’s car a day earlier because she didn’t return from the store quickly enough.
Authorities say Perez has been married for about 22 years but has had a girlfriend for two years.
Perez allegedly struck her with the crowbar following an argument.
