TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) - Several Tiverton churches are banding together to offer busy commuting Christians a chance kick off Lent without getting out of their car.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church will host Ashes to Go, a drive-by distribution of ashes for the faithful at the entrance to Grinnell’s Beach on Ash Wednesday.

The Rev. John Higginbotham, priest-in-charge of Holy Trinity, will be joined by clergy from the Amicable Congregational Church and the First Old Stone Baptist Church.

Higginbotham tells The Herald News (https://bit.ly/NN4jwA ) the goal is to bring the church to the community.

The Town Council gave the churches permission to use the shoulders at the entrance to the beach to allow cars to stop without interfering with traffic.

Ashes - and coffee - will be offered from 6:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
